Delhi blast probe: Radical video of Umar Nabi glorifying suicide bombing surfaces online

A troubling video connected to the Delhi blast case has come forward, showing Dr Umar Nabi – the man linked to the Red Fort suicide attack – openly talking about suicide bombing.

Reports suggest that this video was recorded only a few days before the deadly incident that took place on the evening of 10th November. In the video, Umar Nabi, also known as Dr Umar un Nabi, appears calm and confident as he discusses ideas that have shocked investigators and viewers alike.

In the clip, he explains his view of suicide attacks and says, “The most critical aspect of suicide attacks is that when an individual is convinced they will die at a specific time and location, they adopt a perilous mindset. They place themselves in a scenario where they perceive death as their sole outcome.”
He further adds, “The truth is that such a mindset or circumstance cannot be tolerated in any democratic and humane society, as it contradicts the essential principles of life, community and law.”

The video shows him claiming that many people misunderstand suicide bombing. He argues that it has long been seen as a common practice within Islam and refers to it as a “martyrdom operation.” Shockingly, he also tries to motivate others to follow the same path, which has raised serious concerns about attempts at wider radicalisation. At this point, the source of the video and how it was circulated online remain unclear.

The Delhi suicide attack resulted in the death of 15 people, while many others were injured. Investigators had earlier seized 2,900 kilograms of explosive material linked to an inter-state Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) module. Several accused were arrested, including Kashmiri Muslim doctors and the India head of the women’s wing of the Pakistan-based terror outfit. The explosives, which were seized from Haryana and kept at a police station in Nowgam, Srinagar, later exploded on 14th November, killing 9 personnel and government staff, and injuring 29 others.

Reacting to the video, All India Muslim Jamaat National President Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi strongly condemned the accused doctor. He said, “Umar, who was connected to terrorism and carried out a suicide attack himself, is a criminal. The way he released the video and justified the suicide attack is completely against Islamic principles...”

Further investigation revealed links between Umar Nabi and young men involved in building weapons. Officials found that Bilal Ahmed Wani’s son, Jasir Bilal Wani, was creating drones and rockets for a Hamas-style attack in Delhi. He was in close contact with Umar Nabi and was also a neighbour of another accused terrorist, Adeel Rather.

According to the NIA Press Release dated 17th November 2025, the agency arrested another key associate of Umar Nabi in connection with the Red Fort area car bomb blast. The statement reads:

“Continuing with its probe in the Red Fort area car bomb blast case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested another key associate of the terrorist involved in the blast. Jasir Bilal Wani @ Danish, also a Kashmiri resident, was arrested from Srinagar in Jammu & Kashmir by an NIA team that was in the Valley in the case RC-21/2025/NIA/DLI."

The NIA further explained that Jasir had allegedly provided technical support for the attack by modifying drones and attempting to develop rockets before the blast. According to investigators, 10 people were killed and 32 were injured in the car bomb explosion. Jasir, a resident of Qazigund in Anantnag, was described as an active co-conspirator who worked closely with Umar Nabi to plan the terror operation.

The agency added that several teams are exploring all angles, pursuing leads, and conducting searches across different states to uncover every individual connected to the attack. The investigation continues to expand as more links and evidence surface.

What Is Suicide Bombing and Why Terrorists Use It

Suicide bombing is a violent act in which an attacker deliberately kills themselves while trying to kill or injure other people. The attacker usually carries explosives on their body, in a vehicle, or in a device kept close to them. The key element is that the person does not plan to survive the attack.

How Suicide Bombing Works

Terrorist groups use suicide bombing for several reasons:

  1. Guaranteed Detonation
The attacker is physically present at the target location, so terrorists believe the bomb will almost certainly explode exactly where they want.

  2. High Casualties
Suicide attacks usually happen in crowded areas like markets, buses, government buildings, or religious places. This causes maximum harm and fear.

  3. Difficult to Stop
Since the attacker blends into the crowd, it becomes difficult for security forces to detect them in advance.

  4. Psychological Impact
Suicide bombing creates extreme fear in society. People feel unsafe in public places because anyone could be the next attacker.

  5. Propaganda Tool
Terror organisations often present suicide bombers as “martyrs” to attract more recruits. This is a manipulation tactic used to brainwash vulnerable people.

Why Terrorists Use Suicide Bombing

Terror groups use suicide bombing for the following purposes:

  1. To Create Fear and Panic
The main goal is to terrorise the population. A suicide bombing shows the group is willing to go to extreme lengths.

  2. To Gain Attention
These attacks usually catch national and international media attention. Terrorists do it to send a message or gain publicity for their ideology.

  3. To Target High-Security Areas
Since the bomber personally carries the explosives, they can enter places where other forms of attacks may fail due to strict security.

  4. To Cause Political Pressure
After a major suicide attack, governments face public anger and pressure. Terror organisations use this to weaken the government or destabilise regions.

  5. To Recruit Followers
Some extremist groups falsely portray suicide bombing as a “heroic” act, even though it is against basic moral, legal, and human values. This manipulation helps them recruit emotionally vulnerable people.

Suicide bombing is not a normal military tactic. It is an illegal act of terrorism used to scare the public, destabilise societies, and pressure governments. No religion or civilised ideology accepts or justifies the killing of innocent people. Terror groups use it only to spread violence and fear.

1. Why Young People Get Brainwashed Into Suicide Bombing

Terrorist organisations usually target young, emotional, and vulnerable individuals. They use several methods to manipulate them:

a) Identity Crisis

Young people who feel lost, ignored, or unimportant are easier to influence. Recruiters tell them they can “prove themselves” through violence.

b) Fake Religious Justification

Extremists twist religious teachings and claim suicide bombing is “holy” or “rewarded.”
In reality, all major religions clearly forbid killing innocent people.

c) Personal Trauma

Someone who has lost a family member, experienced violence, or faced discrimination can be pushed into extreme anger.

d) Isolation and Loneliness

When a person does not have strong family or social support, they can be easily trapped by extremist groups offering “friendship” and “brotherhood.”

e) Brainwashing Through Internet

Terror groups run propaganda on Telegram, Instagram, YouTube, and private groups. They share emotional videos, false stories, and fake promises.

f) Promise of Rewards

Recruiters falsely claim that the bomber’s family will be taken care of, or that they will gain “respect” in the afterlife.

Overall, terrorism feeds on emotional weakness, lack of knowledge, and psychological manipulation.

2. Some Major Suicide Attacks in India and Worldwide

a) India

1. 2001 Parliament Attack (Carried out by Jaish-e-Mohammed gunmen)

Target: Indian Parliament
Impact: 14 people killed, massive national security shock.

2. 2019 Pulwama Attack

Perpetrator: Jaish-e-Mohammed suicide bomber
Target: CRPF convoy
Casualties: 40 Indian soldiers killed.

3. 2008 Jaipur Blasts & 2006 Mumbai Train Blasts

Though not all were suicide missions, they used similar terror networks and strategies.

b) Worldwide

1. 9/11 Attacks – USA

19 hijackers carried out suicide missions by crashing planes.
Casualties: Nearly 3,000 dead.

2. ISIS Attacks in Europe (Paris 2015, Brussels 2016)

Suicide bombers targeted airports, stadiums, and restaurants.
Hundreds killed.

3. LTTE Suicide Bombings – Sri Lanka

One of the earliest groups to adopt suicide bombing on a large scale.
Killed political leaders including Rajiv Gandhi (1991).

These examples show how suicide bombing has been used across continents to cause mass fear and instability.

3. How Security Agencies Detect and Prevent Suicide Bombers

Security agencies use a combination of intelligence gathering, surveillance, and on-ground checks:

a) Monitoring Online Activity

Intelligence agencies track extremist channels, encrypted chat groups, and suspicious accounts.

b) Human Intelligence (HUMINT)

Local informers, community leaders, and undercover officers provide leads about radicalised individuals.

c) Behavioural Detection

Security staff are trained to identify unusual behaviour such as:

    • Nervousness

    • Avoiding eye contact

    • Wearing heavy clothing in heat

    • Carrying abnormal bags

    • Ignoring security commands

d) DNA, Phone, and Financial Tracking

Agencies analyse call records, money transfers, and cross-border communication.

e) Surveillance Cameras & AI

Cities with CCTV networks detect suspicious movement in public places.

f) Counter-Radicalisation Programs

Governments run awareness programs to prevent young people from falling into extremist traps.

g) Quick-Response Teams

Police and special forces undergo specific training to stop suicide attacks before detonation.

These strategies help reduce the number of successful terror missions.

4. Psychological Manipulation Tactics Used by Terror Recruiters

Terror recruiters use advanced psychological tricks, similar to cult manipulation:

a) Love Bombing

They show extra affection, attention, and emotional support to make the target feel important.

b) Isolation

They slowly disconnect the recruit from family, friends, and school/college so that only the group influences them.

c) Repetition of Propaganda

They show emotional videos again and again until the person starts believing the false narrative.

d) Creating an Enemy Image

They falsely claim that a specific community, country, or religion is “against them,” pushing the recruit towards violence.

e) Glorifying Death

They present suicide attackers as “heroes,” “saints,” or “martyrs,” even though no religion or lawful system accepts this.

f) Pressure and Threats

If a recruit tries to leave, they may face emotional blackmail, threats, or pressure.

g) Small Tasks Leading to Bigger Crimes

Recruiters start by giving harmless tasks like distributing pamphlets, then gradually introduce violent activities.

This slow psychological grooming makes a young person believe they are making a “noble sacrifice” when in reality they are committing a crime against humanity.
