Five Recent Times Congress Activists Turned to Disruptive Tactics and Violence

The Congress party is currently under intense public scrutiny following a series of incidents where its members engaged in blatant hooliganism. These actions have not only caused domestic unrest but have also risked embarrassing India on the global stage. Over the past several days, a wave of violent clashes and aggressive protests involving the Congress and its youth wing has sparked significant political instability across multiple states.

From the highly scripted disruption of the international AI Impact Summit in the national capital to physical altercations in Indore, Puducherry, and Telangana, these events have further highlighted what many describe as the violent tactics of the Congress party.

Outrage Follows Shirtless Demonstration at Bharat Mandapam

The series of disturbances began at the highly prestigious AI Impact Summit, hosted at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. This international gathering featured top tech CEOs and global delegates and was designed to showcase India’s growing influence in the field of artificial intelligence. However, members of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) chose this platform to stage a dramatic disruption. They held a shirtless protest and shouted slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi inside the venue itself.

According to police reports, several Youth Congress leaders managed to enter the site on Friday, February 20th. They reportedly used online registrations and QR codes to gain access. To bypass initial security checks, they wore sweaters and jackets to conceal T-shirts printed with political slogans. Once they reached Hall No. 5, the protesters stripped off their outer layers and waved their T-shirts in the air. They began shouting various slogans, including the statement "PM is compromised." This specific protest was reportedly organized to voice opposition to the recently announced India-US tariff agreement, which the Congress party claims undermines national interests.

The sudden disruption left many attendees, particularly the foreign dignitaries, in a state of shock. Video footage quickly surfaced showing the activists holding up clothing featuring the Prime Minister's likeness alongside derogatory messages. The scene eventually turned violent as a physical scuffle broke out. During the attempt to restore order, at least three police officers sustained injuries. Consequently, the Delhi Police arrested four prominent Youth Congress leaders: Krishna Hari, Kundan Yadav, Ajay Kumar, and Narasimha Yadav.

A local court later remanded the individuals to five days of police custody. Law enforcement officials informed the court that the suspects allegedly intended to create a level of unrest comparable to recent events in Nepal, with the specific goal of defaming India internationally. While the Youth Congress defended the display as a legitimate exercise of democratic protest, the BJP condemned the incident as a “national shame,” accusing the opposition of using a global technology summit for petty political gain.

Violent Street Battles in Indore Result in Multiple Injuries

The political volatility quickly spread from the capital to the streets of Indore, Madhya Pradesh. On Saturday, February 21st, violent clashes broke out in the Machhi Bazar area, specifically near the Congress office. The fight involved supporters of the Congress and members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).

The conflict reportedly started when BJYM members gathered to protest the actions taken by the Youth Congress at the Delhi AI Summit. Although police had set up heavy barricades, the situation spiraled out of control. Authorities noted that stone-pelting began abruptly, with both factions blaming the other for the initial provocation.

One BJP worker, Bindu Chauhan, was seriously injured when a stone struck her near her eye. Footage released by the BJP showed her with visible bleeding from her forehead and nose. She later stated that the stones originated from the Congress office and that she felt she was deliberately targeted. The chaos also resulted in injuries to several other protesters, members of the press, and a police sub-inspector.

In response, the Pandhrinath Police Station filed two FIRs based on complaints from both BJYM worker Avesh Rathore and Congress leadership. A third case was filed by the police themselves regarding the violation of prohibitory orders and obstruction of duty. The BJYM complaint specifically named 20 Congress figures, including city president Chintu Chokse and district president Vipin Wankhede. They face charges of rioting, unlawful assembly, and criminal conspiracy. Conversely, Congress leaders claimed that BJYM workers tried to surround their office and damaged vehicles. Deputy Commissioner of Police Krishna Lalchandani stated that CCTV footage is being reviewed to verify these claims, noting that it is currently too early to determine who started the violence.

AI Summit Aftermath Triggers National Political Turmoil

The repercussions of the Delhi summit disruption continued well into the following day. Youth Congress activists ramped up their efforts in both Delhi and Chandigarh, repeating their slogans against the Prime Minister. In both locations, the police were forced to deploy water cannons to break up the crowds after clashes with security forces intensified.

The political atmosphere grew even more heated as posters appeared across Delhi depicting Mahatma Gandhi with the caption “Shirtless Congressi.” In retaliation, the BJP’s youth wing launched counter-protests in various states, claiming Congress was ruining India’s international reputation.

During court proceedings, Delhi Police emphasized that the arrested activists had specifically targeted an event populated by international leaders and tech giants to create a ruckus. Investigators are also reportedly checking the mobile devices of the accused to see if any external funding played a role in the disruption. Defense attorneys, however, maintained that the protest was intended to be peaceful and that political dissent should not be treated as a criminal act.

Violent Confrontation Near BJP Office in Puducherry

The wave of tension eventually reached Puducherry, where a violent face-off between Congress and BJP workers left five people injured. Among the wounded was Superintendent of Police Vamsi Reddy. The violence began when more than 100 Congress members marched toward the BJP headquarters, eventually breaking through police barriers.

The protesters burned an effigy of Prime Minister Modi, which immediately triggered a fight with BJP supporters. The march was led by high-ranking officials, including State Congress president V. Vaithilingam and former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy. To bring the situation under control, the police had to resort to a lathi-charge. SP Vamsi Reddy suffered a hand injury during the struggle. Over 100 police officers had to be stationed in the area to prevent further outbreaks of violence.

Kamareddy Land Dispute Ends in Clashes

On Saturday, February 21st, another point of conflict emerged in Kamareddy, Telangana. This time, the violence stemmed from a land dispute and a verbal spat between government adviser Mohammed Ali Shabbir and BJP MLA K. Venkata Ramana Reddy.

Congress leader Giri Reddy Mahender Reddy and his followers gathered near the BJP MLA’s camp office to protest. During the ensuing violence, Mahender Reddy’s own vehicle was flipped upside down by Congress supporters. Police struggled to manage the aggressive crowd.

The President of the Telangana BJP, N. Ramchander Rao, voiced his strong disapproval of the incident. In a post on the platform X, he stated: “The ghastly attack by Congress workers at the Kamareddy BJP MLA K Venkat Ramana Reddy garu’s Camp Office is deeply condemnable and shocking…” He went on to say that “Such acts of political violence have no place in a democracy.” Rao also announced his intention to visit the site personally to support the BJP workers and evaluate the damage.

Congress Members Raid BRS Office in Telangana

In a separate but equally troubling incident that occurred a few months prior in Bhongir, Telangana, Congress workers stormed the offices of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). This attack was reportedly triggered by derogatory comments made by a BRS leader regarding Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

Witnesses described a scene of destruction where Congress workers forced their way into the building, smashed furniture, and threw chairs. While the police arrived to clear the crowd, the building suffered extensive damage. An investigation using CCTV footage is currently underway to identify those involved. BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao condemned the raid, accusing the Congress of fostering a culture of "violence and anarchy" in the state. He has demanded immediate arrests and promised to take firm action against such behavior.

As these violent demonstrations and clashes continue to break out across the country, the political landscape remains dangerously divided. Between the physical assaults on opponents and the attempts to disrupt international summits, the current conduct of the Congress party has raised significant concerns regarding the boundaries of political protest and the duty of parties to maintain civil order.
