Ambala horror as drunk cop PSI Amit slams speeding Honda City into e-rickshaw near Kali Paltan Bridge, crushing 24-year-old Nikita Bajaj to death and sparking fierce family protests for immediate justice

In a devastating turn of events in Ambala Cantonment, a 24-year-old woman employed by a private firm in Gurgaon lost her life on Wednesday evening. Police reports indicate that her death was caused by a speeding car, allegedly driven by a police head constable, which collided violently with the e-rickshaw she was travelling in.
The fatal incident took place near the Kali Paltan Bridge. The victim, identified as Nikita Bajaj, had traveled from Delhi earlier that day accompanied by her brother, Harsh Bajaj. According to information provided by the news agency PTI, the siblings were in town to attend a family function.

The Sequence of Events
According to police details, the tragedy unfolded around 8:30 PM. The siblings had boarded an e-rickshaw from the Cantonment area, intending to travel to Ambala City. As their vehicle neared the city limits, a Honda City car approached them from behind. Authorities state that this car was being driven at a high speed by a head constable who is currently posted at the Lalkurti Police Station.
The collision was severe. Police officials stated that the impact caused the e-rickshaw to lose its stability and control, forcibly throwing Nikita onto the road. Tragically, the car did not stop in time and ran over her. She was immediately rushed to the trauma center at the Civil Hospital in Ambala City, but despite medical efforts, doctors declared her dead upon arrival.

Eyewitness Accounts and Driver Testimony
Ravinder Singh, the driver of the e-rickshaw, provided a harrowing account of the moments just before the crash. He noted that he was transporting four passengers when the collision occurred.
“The car was being driven by a policeman at high speed. As a result of the impact, the woman fell on the road, and the car being driven by the policeman ran over her,” Singh recounted.
He further elaborated on the chaos, stating, “A speeding car driven by a police officer hit our e-rickshaw, and one of the passengers, a woman, fell from it. After that, the police officer ran over the girl. When she was brought to the hospital, she was declared dead.”
Following the crash, local residents who were near the scene acted quickly. They surrounded the vehicle, apprehended the driver, and subsequently handed him over to the police.

Allegations of Drunk Driving
The atmosphere following the accident was charged with anger and grief. Eyewitnesses and the victim's relatives alleged that the police officer behind the wheel was in an inebriated condition. There were also strong accusations from the public that the police were attempting to shield their colleague from the consequences of his actions.
Nikita’s father, Jaspal Bajaj, has demanded a fair investigation and strict legal action, citing negligence by the accused. Similarly, Nikita’s brother, identified in reports as Mayank, spoke out about the condition of the driver.
“My elder sister was coming from Delhi. Her name is Nikita, and she works in Gurugram. A drunk police officer was driving the car, which ran over my sister,” Mayank said, emphasizing the family's shock that a guardian of the law was responsible.
The family's grief was further voiced by Nikita’s uncle. As quoted by India Today, he stated: “We lost our daughter because of the police officer. We want justice and strict action against the culprit.”Official Police Statements
Thana Padav Station House Officer (SHO) Dharamveer provided an official timeline and details regarding the accused.
"Around 9:15 AM, a private employee, Harsh Bajaj, and his sister Nikita, who work in Gurgaon, were returning home. They took an e-rickshaw from the bus stand. Near Kali Paltan Pull, a head constable, Amit, was driving behind them. Due to a balance issue, the e-rickshaw overturned, and the girl was run over by a car..." the SHO stated.
The SHO confirmed the identity of the accused as Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Amit, who was posted as rider number 13 at the Baldev Nagar outpost. He addressed the reckless nature of the driving involved.
“The drunk policeman lost control of the vehicle and ran over Nikita, and the vehicle hit the grille on the highway. The police have arrested the driver and a case has now been registered,” SHO Dharamveer confirmed.
Later, a senior police officer briefed the press, confirming that the accused had been taken into custody. Crucially, the officer added that the medical report indicated the influence of alcohol, validating the claims made by the family and eyewitnesses.

Public Outcry and Ongoing Investigation
News of the incident spread rapidly, leading to high tension at the hospital’s trauma center late into the night. Family members, joined by local residents, staged a protest. They demanded that the medical examination of the accused be conducted in the presence of the media to ensure transparency, fearing a cover-up. Additional police personnel were deployed to the area to maintain order.
The police have assured the public that the allegations are being examined thoroughly. A case has been officially registered against the accused officer, and officials are reviewing all details, including eyewitness statements and the medical report.
According to her family, Nikita had been working in Gurgaon for the past four years, while her brother works as a supervisor at a hotel in New Delhi. A post-mortem examination of the victim is scheduled for Thursday.
The death of Nikita Bajaj has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising serious questions regarding drunk driving and the accountability of police officials. Police emphasize that a proper investigation is in progress.
