CPM leader PV Bhaskaran, who dismissed “The Kerala Story” as propaganda, now accused of imprisoning his daughter Sangeeta for wanting to marry a Muslim man Rasheed, exposing the Left’s collapsing moral façade

On October 25, shocking allegations surfaced from Kerala’s Kasaragod district, where PV Sangeeta, the 35-year-old daughter of Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader PV Bhaskaran, revealed that her own father had imprisoned and abused her for wanting to marry a Muslim man named Rasheed.

Bhaskaran serves as the Uduma Area Committee member of the CPM, making the revelation particularly explosive for the Left party that often projects itself as a champion of women’s rights and freedom of choice.
Sangeeta said her nightmare began when she told her father she wished to marry Rasheed. According to her, Bhaskaran responded violently. “You can practice communism outside the house. It has no place inside our family. If you won’t obey, then I will kill you. I know the ways to come out of jail unscathed,” she recounted, describing the chilling threats made by her father.
Her ordeal became worse after a road accident in September 2023 left her paralyzed from the waist down. The divorced mother of a teenage boy said she was kept under house arrest, denied medical treatment, and pressured to commit suicide so that her family could seize her assets. She accused her father and brother of confiscating her divorce settlement and gold, alleging that they even tried to push her into despair for financial gain.

Unable to move freely, Sangeeta’s only connection to the outside world was through secret phone calls to friends and authorities. She said her father threatened her repeatedly, telling her she would “never walk again” and that she would “perish in bed.” When she attempted to seek legal help, she filed a habeas corpus petition, but the court dismissed it after police claimed she was living with her parents voluntarily. Sangeeta alleged that the police ignored her pleas after realizing her father’s political position.
Determined to escape, she later approached the District Collector and Superintendent of Police, detailing how her family had stolen her money and planned to “put her into a coma” to claim insurance funds.
Bhaskaran, however, denied all allegations, claiming Rasheed was already married with two children and only after Sangeeta’s ₹1.5 crore worth of property. Police records confirmed that Rasheed’s wife had filed a complaint accusing him of neglect, and even she claimed he was interested in Sangeeta for financial reasons.
Hypocrisy exposed — the Left’s selective morality and denial of reality
Bhaskaran’s case exposes a deep hypocrisy within Kerala’s Left leadership. The same man who once dismissed “The Kerala Story” as propaganda from the “Sangh Parivar” now finds himself accused of exactly the kind of behavior that film depicted. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and other leaders from both the CPM-led LDF and Congress-led UDF had previously mocked the film, calling the concept of “love jihad” a Hindutva myth.
Yet the reality has repeatedly contradicted these denials. Multiple women from Kerala, including Nimisha alias Fathima and her friends, were reportedly lured into radical networks and ended up in ISIS-controlled territories. The Left also defended Akhila Ashokan, who converted and became Hadiya, later marrying a man linked to the Popular Front of India (PFI).
Sangeeta’s testimony shows that Left leaders preach progressive values in public but impose rigid, regressive control in private. Her father’s words—rejecting “communism inside the family” while supporting it politically—symbolize a glaring contradiction between ideology and personal practice.
Kerala has also witnessed repeated political killings, especially targeting RSS and BJP members, reinforcing the perception that the Left’s so-called tolerance is selectively applied. Their attempt to reach Hindu voters through the Ayyappa Summit contrasts sharply with their historic hostility toward Hindu concerns. Even the Kerala Church has expressed alarm over love jihad incidents, yet Left leaders continue to mock such warnings as communal rhetoric.
Bhaskaran’s conduct—forcing his daughter to abandon her beliefs while condemning others for alleged intolerance—has become a textbook example of Leftist duplicity.

The Left’s moral downfall — ideology meets its own contradiction
The moral high ground the Left long claimed in Kerala—built on slogans of equality, secularism, and justice—is now collapsing. For decades, the Kerala Left elite projected themselves as torchbearers of modernity, lecturing society on women’s rights, religious harmony, and social justice. But Sangeeta’s story has torn through that façade.
The same leaders who once celebrated women’s autonomy now stand accused of controlling, silencing, and imprisoning their daughters. Their proclaimed secularism has turned into selective outrage, vocal against the Hindu majority but mute on Islamist aggression or internal corruption.
This is not an isolated case—it reflects a pattern of moral decay within Kerala’s Left establishment, which has long relied on intellectual posturing and media silence to preserve its image. Today, that mask has slipped.
Sangeeta’s pain, her father’s political clout, and the system’s indifference together expose how deeply compromised the Left’s moral authority has become. The collapse of its self-proclaimed ethics is not because critics said so—but because its own actions proved it.
