"Roots of true achievement lie in the will to become the best that you can become": India Golden boy Neeraj Chopra scripted yet another history by becoming first-ever Indian to win the prestigious Diamond League trophy taking Indian Sports to new heights

Neeraj Chopra won the Diamond Trophy - handed out to winners of the Diamond League final every year - with a throw of 88.44m. He is the first Indian to ever win the prestigious trophy.

A weakened field, missing world champion Anderson Peters (due to injury) and Commonwealth Games champion Arshad Nadeem (due to not having enough points), posed little trouble for reigning Olympic champion Chopra.
He started with a foul, before the big throw in his second attempt. With the men's and women's javelin events happening simultaneously, Chopra had to wait quite a bit before his trophy could be confirmed.
Olympic silver medalist Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic finished second with a best throw of 86.94m. Rounding off the podium places was Julian Weber of Germany, with a best throw of 83.73m.
Meanwhile, Chopra had looked confident that the second throw was a good one - with a trademark look-back, yell, and index finger raise before the javelin even landed. He followed that up with throws of 88.00m, 86.11m, 87.00m, and 83.60m
Chopra had started his 2022 season late, after nearly a year out post the Olympics. He had won silver in the World Championships, behind one of the all-time great worlds displays from Peters. He had then skipped the Commonwealth Games after suffering a minor strain at the Worlds.

Chopra had qualified for the Diamond League final after finishing first in the Diamond League leg at Lausanne (the first Indian to win a DL event), and second in the Stockholm's leg (where he broke the national record).
Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur congratulated ace javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra for becoming the first-ever Indian to win the prestigious Diamond League trophy.
The minister said Chopra has added another feather to his cap with this win.
“You’ve taken Indian Sports to new heights with your superb performances. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is proud to support you in this journey. Congratulations Champ!!,” minister Thakur tweeted.
Star Indian javelin throw athlete and Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra made history on Thursday, becoming the first-ever Indian to win the prestigious Diamond League trophy, a top-tier athletics competition, achieving the best throw of 88.44 m to clinch one of the biggest wins of his career.
