No ‘Hydrogen Bomb’ as of now: Rahul Gandhi once again accuses CEC Gyanesh Kumar of shielding “vote chors,” claiming software-driven voter deletions in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh

No ‘Hydrogen Bomb’ Yet: Rahul Gandhi Targets CEC, Accuses Use of Software to Steal Votes

On 18th September, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi once again came out swinging against the Election Commission of India. At a press conference, he accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of shielding “vote chors” (vote thieves).

According to Gandhi, the deletion of names from electoral rolls is not random but a carefully designed conspiracy. He alleged that Dalit, OBC, and minority voters are being systematically erased through a “centralised software-based mechanism.”

This was not the first time Gandhi made such explosive claims, but his tone carried more desperation than confidence. After all, nothing boosts his speeches more than blaming an institution, especially one he insists is working against him.

“I Have 100% Proof,” Declares Rahul Gandhi with Confidence

In his speech, Gandhi described the revelations as “solid proof” of large-scale voter fraud. He said he was not doing this for politics but because of his “love for the Constitution and democratic process.” To make himself sound like the saviour of the nation, he even declared, “I am saving my country and democracy,” before thundering that he had “100% proof” of a pre-planned operation to tamper with electoral rolls.

The irony, of course, is that Gandhi has a long history of claiming he has proof but rarely producing it. For years, he has painted himself as a whistleblower while the public waits for the big evidence that never seems to arrive.

Karnataka’s Aland Example of Fraud Allegations

To strengthen his case, Gandhi cited an example from Karnataka’s Aland constituency during the 2023 elections. He alleged that 6,018 deletion applications were filed in the names of voters who never submitted them. According to him, these fraudulent applications were made using impersonation and mobile numbers from other states, deliberately targeting Congress supporters.

He added that the case came to light by chance. A Booth Level Officer (BLO) discovered that her own uncle’s name had disappeared from the voter list. When she checked with a neighbour whose details were used for deletion, the neighbour denied doing anything. Gandhi claimed this proved the exercise was a “part of a planned action and not isolated mistakes.”

The story, while dramatic, raises the obvious question: if the problem is so huge, why does it always come to light only by coincidence and only when Gandhi decides to shout about it?

“This Was a Centralised Software Operation,” Rahul Alleges

Gandhi insisted that the deletions were not done by random individuals. He declared, “This deletion of votes was not done by individuals, but in a centralised manner using software.” According to him, this was not just limited to Karnataka but also happening in Maharashtra, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, where “mass deletions” of voters leaning towards Congress had taken place.

He pointed to Maharashtra’s Rajura constituency, where he alleged that at least 6,850 voters were targeted with both deletions and additions being manipulated. Gandhi’s favourite theme of an invisible, all-powerful software once again came out strong—because nothing makes his arguments scarier than mysterious technology.

Election Commission Defending Those “Killing Democracy”

Going a step further, Gandhi accused the Election Commission of actively shielding those behind these manipulations. He said the Commission was refusing to give Karnataka CID details of deletions and boldly declared, “The EC is defending the murderers of democracy.” He demanded that the Chief Election Commissioner release all voter deletion details within one week.

According to him, this was just “another example of vote chori through deletion of votes.” He warned that if such practices were allowed to continue, the very credibility of India’s democratic process would collapse.

In what sounded like a political thriller script, Gandhi also claimed that insiders from the Election Commission were “secretly” helping Congress to uncover the discrepancies. He further added that this practice of deletion had been happening for 10 to 15 years—which conveniently puts his own party, the UPA that ruled in 2009, in the line of fire as well.

Gyanesh Kumar accused of shielding those who destroyed democracy: Rahul

During his press conference on Thursday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi directly accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of siding with “vote chors” and protecting people who, according to him, had destroyed the very essence of Indian democracy. Standing before the media, Gandhi displayed data related to the Aland constituency on a large screen, claiming that the votes of Congress supporters were being systematically deleted ahead of elections.

In his words, Gandhi said: “I am going to show the youth, the people, proof that is black and white, absolutely clear that Chief Election Commissioner of India is protecting people who have destroyed Indian democracy. I will also show you the methods by which votes are added, deleted and show you how it is done.”

He alleged that this was not the work of scattered individuals, but a group of people who were deploying a centralised method using software, impersonating genuine voters and erasing their names from official rolls. Gandhi painted the issue as a long-running problem, claiming, “In election after election, someone, some group of people, have been systematically targeting voters for deletions across India. Different communities, mainly those who are voting for the opposition, Dalits, OBCs, adivasis, and minorities, are specifically targeted who vote for the Opposition. We had heard this many times, and now we found 100 per cent proof of it.”

To reinforce his seriousness, he declared, “I am not going to say anything on this stage that is not backed up by 100 per cent proof. I am somebody who loves my country, the Constitution, and the democratic process, and I am protecting that process. I am not going to be based on 100 per cent proof that you can determine.”

Gandhi’s words tried to project an image of himself as the guardian of democracy, waving what he called undeniable evidence, while continuing his combative stance against the Election Commission.

EC rejects Rahul Gandhi’s ‘vote-chori’ allegation in Aland as false and baseless

The Election Commission of India responded quickly and firmly to Gandhi’s charges. On Thursday, the poll body outrightly rejected his claims of massive voter deletions in Karnataka’s Aland constituency, calling them “incorrect and baseless.”

The Commission clarified that Rahul Gandhi’s figure of more than six thousand deletions in Aland was misleading. It stressed that “no deletion of any vote can be done online by any member of the public, as conceived by Rahul Gandhi.” The EC further reminded that safeguards exist to protect every voter, pointing out that no deletion can take place “without giving an opportunity of being heard, to the affected person.”

On the specific matter of Aland, the Election Commission highlighted that the issue Gandhi raised dated back to 2013, when unsuccessful attempts were made, but an FIR was already filed to investigate the case. To add further perspective, the Commission cited election results: “Aland AC was won by BJP’s Subhash Guttedar in 2018 and Congress’s B R Patil in 2023.”

By citing both legal safeguards and past electoral records, the Election Commission not only denied Gandhi’s allegations but also sought to portray them as exaggerated and politically motivated, aiming to cast doubt on the institution ahead of upcoming polls.

The irony is that every time an election nears, Gandhi finds new villains—software, institutions, agencies, even invisible forces. He repeats words like “proof,” “saving democracy,” and “Constitution” so often that they now sound less like commitments and more like rehearsed lines from a tired script. The public, meanwhile, is still waiting for the so-called “hydrogen bomb” of evidence he promised but never seems to deliver.
