Heartbreak grips Pune as a speeding car kills a 5-year-old boy in Joy Nest Society Loni Kalbhor, with CCTV showing the tragic impact and residents demanding strict action against the negligent driver

PUNE: A tragic incident shook a residential community in Pune after a five-year-old boy lost his life when a car hit him inside a housing society in Loni Kalbhor on Monday evening. The accident, which took place within what is meant to be a safe residential space, has left residents deeply disturbed and angry.

The incident happened at around 3.30 pm inside the Joy Nest Society premises. At the time, the child was playing with his bicycle, moving around freely within the society compound, as children often do in familiar surroundings. What followed was captured by the society’s CCTV cameras, footage that has since come into the public eye and is being widely circulated on social media.
According to the police, the car involved in the incident was being driven by a person who lives on Mundhwa Road. The driver had entered the society only to drop off a friend in front of one of the buildings. During this short visit, the vehicle struck the child, who was riding his bicycle and appeared completely unaware of the approaching car.
The impact left the child critically injured. He was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital in the same vehicle. Despite the efforts to save him, doctors declared the boy dead on arrival, confirming the worst fears of his family and neighbours.
|
The boy’s father, aged 40, later approached the police and filed a formal complaint. In his statement, he alleged that rash and negligent driving led directly to his son’s death. Based on this complaint, the police have begun the process of investigation.
The CCTV footage provides a disturbing glimpse into the moments before and after the accident. It shows the child riding his bicycle within the society, followed by the car approaching. After the collision, the video captures the driver quickly stepping out of the vehicle, neighbours running towards the spot, and several people attempting to help. The child is then seen being placed back into the car to be taken to the hospital.
Police officials have confirmed that they are carefully examining the CCTV evidence. Their focus is on reconstructing the exact sequence of events, including determining the speed of the car at the time of impact and whether safety norms were violated within the residential premises.
The incident has sparked strong reactions from residents of the society and nearby areas. Many have voiced serious concerns over how a vehicle could be driven at such speed within a residential complex where children regularly play. Residents are demanding strict action against the driver and are questioning the lack of enforcement of speed restrictions inside housing societies.
As the investigation continues, the case has once again raised troubling questions about road safety, accountability, and the protection of children within spaces that are supposed to be secure.
