In a chilling betrayal that shook Bihar, schoolteacher Roma Kumari murdered her 12-year-old son Shreyansh for opposing her affair, then burned his body near Konhar Bridge—his only sin was confronting the very mother who was meant to protect him

In the heart of Bihar’s Barh town, a story has emerged so harrowing that it has left even the most stoic villagers in disbelief. A woman, a teacher by profession and a mother by role, stands accused of a crime that not only defies morality but shakes the very foundation of human empathy. Roma Kumari, aged 32, who earned her position through the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC), has been accused of murdering her 12-year-old son, Shreyansh, in cold blood. According to the police, she did not act alone—she had the assistance of her alleged lover, Nirmal Paswan, a school principal. The child’s only fault? He objected to his mother’s ongoing extramarital affair.
What transpired next in the quiet village of Bedhna has horrified everyone. The young boy, having found the courage to confront his mother about her affair with Nirmal Paswan—principal at a Primary Teachers’ Training College in Rohtas—was met with rage instead of remorse. On June 14, 2025, Roma allegedly attacked her son in a fit of fury. The assault was so severe that it resulted in the boy’s death. Not stopping there, Roma and her partner allegedly devised a plan to hide the crime. They carried Shreyansh’s lifeless body to a remote area near Konhar Bridge, nestled in the outskirts of Bedhna village. There, hidden amongst thick shrubs, they attempted to cover up the heinous act by setting the boy’s body on fire. The aim, it seems, was to destroy every shred of evidence—every trace of their guilt—by turning the young boy’s remains to ashes.

Discovery and Arrest
The crime may have been concealed for a night, but it did not remain hidden for long. On June 15, 2025, Barh police made a gruesome discovery—the half-burnt body of a young boy, lying lifeless and charred near Konhar Bridge. The sight sent a wave of terror through the locality. It didn’t take long for suspicions to gather around Roma Kumari, who was taken into custody on June 18, 2025. Her lover and alleged accomplice, Nirmal Paswan, continues to be under investigation.
Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikram Sihag laid bare the horrifying details in a press briefing. He said: “When the child protested against her affair, she assaulted him brutally, causing his death. She and her lover then transported the body and set it on fire.” The deliberate effort to destroy the evidence didn’t just amplify the crime—it highlighted how deeply premeditated and calculated the entire act was. It was not a momentary lapse; it was a chilling execution of a plan to protect an illicit relationship, even if it meant the end of an innocent life.
A Broken Family
Roma’s personal life had long been in turmoil. Originally from Araria, she reportedly shared a strained relationship with her husband. This distance gave rise to her growing proximity with Nirmal Paswan, whom she had met during a training session. Their relationship continued to flourish, and Roma was frequently seen visiting Nirmal in Rohtas. Her children, including Shreyansh, had become aware of her frequent absences and suspected her relationship. It was Shreyansh’s moral objection—his innocent resistance to what he knew was wrong—that triggered a horrifying chain of events.
The tragedy isn’t just the murder itself, but the betrayal that came with it. A boy who believed in the sanctity of his family was silenced for standing up to wrongdoing. The incident has torn the family apart, not just physically, but emotionally and morally. What could drive a mother—an educator trusted with nurturing other children—to turn into the architect of her own son’s death?
Barh, and especially Bedhna village, is now enveloped in mourning. The quiet lanes echo with disbelief. The Konhar Bridge, once a simple rural landmark, has now become a symbol of something far more sinister—a place where love turned into obsession, and where a child’s future was reduced to ashes.

Ongoing Investigation
As authorities dig deeper, uncertainty still clouds the full extent of the crime. Investigators are meticulously piecing together the timeline of events, trying to determine whether Nirmal Paswan was merely an accomplice or a central player in the boy’s murder. Did others know? Was there anyone else involved? These are the questions the Barh police are racing to answer.
Meanwhile, public fury is mounting. Residents, activists, and child rights organizations are demanding that justice for Shreyansh be swift and uncompromising. The public’s trust in educators—seen as moral compasses of society—has been badly shaken.
This horrifying case is more than a crime story. It’s a disturbing reflection of how dangerous unchecked personal desires can become when they overtake the instincts of protection and love a parent is supposed to have. It has left not only a family devastated but also a whole community scarred by the loss of an innocent life that should never have ended this way.
