Bengaluru Triple Murder: Co-Accused Kenneth Apprehended in Puducherry Bar

A major breakthrough has been achieved in the investigation of the shocking KR Puram triple murder case. J Kenneth, a 26-year-old engineering graduate and the second key accused in the crime, was arrested in Puducherry at approximately 10:00 PM on Thursday night. The arrest took place while he was drinking at a local wine shop and bar located on Anna Salai.

The successful capture was the result of a coordinated joint operation involving thirteen specialized police teams. This included ten special teams from the Whitefield police division in Bengaluru and three teams from the Puducherry police department.

The breakthrough came when staff at the Anna Salai bar recognized Kenneth and tipped off an official attached to the Puducherry police. When the law enforcement team arrived at the venue to investigate, Kenneth attempted to evade capture. Upon spotting the police officers, he immediately assaulted a member of the team and fled into the streets. A tense chase ensued, with police pursuing the suspect for nearly half a kilometre (over 200 meters) before successfully subduing and apprehending him. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ramalingam, attached to the Orleanpet police station in Puducherry, led the final push to nab Kenneth. However, during the violent scuffle, ASI Ramalingam and a few other police officers sustained injuries from Kenneth's assault.

Evading Law Enforcement without Technology

The capture of Kenneth follows days of intense tracking. Ever since the primary accused in the case, Shwetha, was arrested near the Puducherry Railway Station on Tuesday, the joint special teams from both Whitefield and Puducherry had been on a relentless hunt for her absconding partner.

To track him down, the Bengaluru city police had distributed Kenneth’s photograph to the Puducherry police. Local authorities then systematically shared the image with all hotels, lodges, bars, restaurants, and even the local driver community across the coastal town. This widespread network proved effective when Kenneth visited the Anna Salai bar, prompting the crucial tip-off to Officer Ramalingam.

Confirming the arrest on Friday, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh detailed the timeline and the tactics used by the suspects to avoid detection. He stated that the woman accused was arrested on June 24 and the other on Thursday. “Based on technical and intelligence reports, the two accused have been arrested. They neither used mobile phones nor kept in touch with anybody. Ten police teams from the Whitefield division and three from Puducherry police, headed by an assistant superintendent of police, were looking for the second accused. The role of the Puducherry police helped us arrest the second accused. The two accused are changing their versions. The case is still in its early stages of investigation. During the interrogation, if the role of any others is found, they will also have to be picked up. We are collecting evidence,” the Commissioner added.

A formal press release issued by the City Police Commissioner’s office on Friday further confirmed that the primary accused, Shwetha, was produced before a local court on Thursday, which remanded her to 15-day police custody (with other investigative records noting she remains in active seven-day police custody during the initial phase). The press release stated: “After an intense search, her absconding friend was secured in Puducherry on Thursday. During interrogation, he too confessed to his involvement in the triple murder.” Following his arrest, the police made arrangements to produce Kenneth before a judge at the latter's home-office located in the National Games Village in Koramangala by Friday evening.

Background and the Escalation of Violence

The tragic chain of events unfolded on Monday night inside Shwetha’s flat, located at the Sai Green Homes apartment complex in Seegehalli, within the KR Puram area. The three victims have been identified as 52-year-old Somasundar, a software engineer, his 48-year-old wife Muthulakshmi, and their 19-year-old daughter Supriya. All three were residents of Nallurahalli in Whitefield.

According to police investigators, Shwetha and Kenneth were former classmates and engineering graduates who had been living together for over a year. They had kept their live-in relationship entirely hidden from their respective families. However, serious financial strain began to compromise their secrecy. Shwetha had accumulated substantial unpaid bank loans that reportedly crossed 30 lakh rupees. The relationship faced severe pressure when formal bank recovery notices regarding these outstanding debts began arriving directly at her family's primary residence in Marathahalli.

In the days leading up to the tragedy, the financial crisis reached a boiling point. Upon receiving the bank notices, Shwetha's mother visited the couple's apartment in Seegehalli to confront them. She was subsequently followed by Shwetha's father, Somasundar, and her younger sister, Supriya. On Monday night, a massive argument erupted inside the flat regarding the massive loan debt and the family's deep objection to Shwetha's live-in relationship with Kenneth.

The dispute quickly escalated into extreme physical violence. Somasundar, Muthulakshmi, and Supriya were repeatedly stabbed to death inside the apartment. Neighbors later reported hearing loud screams coming from the unit at approximately 10:00 PM that night. Shortly after the commotion, Somasundar was discovered bleeding heavily on the building's staircase.

Immediately after the killings, both Shwetha and Kenneth fled Bengaluru together, heading toward Puducherry to hide. Their sudden disappearance triggered a massive multi-state manhunt by the city police, culminating first in Shwetha's arrest on Tuesday and now Kenneth's capture on Thursday night. Detectives are continuing to interrogate both individuals to fully reconstruct the exact sequence of events and establish the precise role played by each accused during the fatal encounter.
