On 15th August (local time), Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly made a striking demand during a meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump in Alaska. According to a Financial Times report, Putin said Moscow would only agree to end its war if Ukraine surrendered the entire eastern Donetsk region. During the talks, Putin argued that ceding Donetsk could allow Russia to freeze the frontline, particularly across the highly contested southern zones of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. Notably, Russian forces already control large portions of Donetsk, tightening Moscow’s grip on the battlefield.
