These arrests are a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the violent incidents that disrupted the peaceful immersion procession of Maa Saraswati’s idol.
The conflict escalated when, at around 5 pm, a group of individuals, identified as Islamic extremists, aggressively blocked the path meant for the idol's immersion at Kasai Tola, a location already contentious due to the earlier obstruction of two tractors. The sudden appearance of this group and their subsequent stone-pelting caused immediate panic among the procession participants, leading to a chaotic dispersal away from the idol. This act of violence not only resulted in physical harm to those present but also saw the destruction of the Saraswati idol, further fueling the anger and distress among the crowd. In the chaos that ensued, several homes and shops in the vicinity were subjected to vandalism, exacerbating the tension and fear within the community.
Prince Kumar Yadav, an officer stationed at the Bhalpatti police post, provided insights into the incident. He clarified that the unrest was sparked by a deviation in the procession's intended route, leading it through the Kasai locality, a move that unexpectedly triggered the outbreak of stone pelting. Addressing speculations about the procession's proximity to a mosque at the time of the attack, Yadav categorically denied such claims, stating that the violence occurred before the procession could reach near any mosque.
