The Khoda Colony Tragedy: How a Pretextual Invitation on Bakrid Led to the Fatal Stabbing of a Ghaziabad Teenager

The narrow, densely populated lanes of Navneet Vihar in Khoda Colony, Ghaziabad, became the scene of a horrifying public spectacle on the afternoon of May 28, 2026. What began as a festive holiday quickly turned into a fatal confrontation when 17-year-old Surya Pratap Chauhan, a Class XI private school student, was lured into a trap under the guise of an Eid celebration.

The violent sequence of events—marked by a deceptive invitation, a desperate 200-meter flight for survival, and a brutal secondary assault—has left one teenager dead, his family shattered, and a highly sensitive semi-urban neighborhood under heavy police lock-down.

A History of Hostility and a Fragile Truce

To understand the tragic culmination of events on the afternoon of Bakrid, local investigators point to a history of personal friction between Surya Pratap and the primary accused, Asad. Asad, an eighth-grade dropout who worked with his father Nawab as a carpenter, lived in the same neighborhood and had a history of volatile interactions with Surya. Approximately eight months prior to the incident, a violent physical altercation broke out between the two teenagers. The mutual hostility resurfaced in another clash five months later, prompting Asad’s family to relocate from the immediate lane, though Asad frequently returned to the area accompanied by his local associates.

In the days leading up to the festival, however, a sudden and superficial peace emerged. The two teenagers apparently reconciled, resolving their previous disputes and resuming regular communication. To neighbors and family members, this reconciliation appeared to be a routine resolution of adolescent friction. However, the events of Thursday afternoon suggest that this fragile truce may have been a calculated effort to lower Surya's defenses, allowing the perpetrators to orchestrate an encounter in an environment where they held a structural advantage.

The Pretextual Invitation and the Initial Attack

The holiday of Bakrid on Thursday, May 28, 2026, brought a festive atmosphere to Ghaziabad, but for Surya, the afternoon took an ominous turn. At approximately 3:30 PM, Surya was standing near his home in Navneet Vihar with his close friends, Vicky and Ayush. Surya received a phone call from Asad, who invited him to meet near a local school and Sharma Dairy under the pretext of showing them something related to the Bakrid rituals. Trusting the newly restored friendship, Surya, accompanied by Vicky and Ayush, walked to the designated location.

Upon their arrival, they found Asad standing outside his house with a group of associates, including a local youth named Arshad. The atmosphere shifted immediately from festive to provocative. According to Vicky's subsequent testimony to the police, Asad approached Surya and mockingly asked: "Tumne kabhi bakra halal hote dekha hai?" (Have you ever seen a goat being slaughtered?). When a confused Surya replied in the negative, Asad aggressively retorted: "Aao dikhate hain" (Come, we will show you).

Recognizing the threatening tone of the exchange, Surya refused the invitation and turned to walk away. His refusal triggered an immediate barrage of verbal abuse and expletives from Asad. When Ayush intervened to object to the verbal abuse, the confrontation escalated to violence. Asad drew a knife and stabbed Surya directly in the abdomen with intent to kill.

The 200-Meter Chase and the Secondary Assault

The initial stab wound did not immediately incapacitate the teenager. In a desperate bid to save his life, Surya pushed his attacker away and fled down the narrow alleyway. He ran for approximately 200 meters through the congested neighborhood streets with the weapon still lodged in his abdomen, crying out for help.

Asad and his associates did not halt their attack; instead, they chased Surya through the public lanes. As Surya reached a T-point between Lane 1 and Lane 2, blood loss and exhaustion overcame him, and he collapsed onto the pavement.

The pursuers caught up to the collapsed teenager. In full view of the neighborhood, they extracted the knife from Surya's abdomen and stabbed him multiple times in the stomach. The secondary assault was only halted when the loud screams of Vicky and Ayush drew the attention of nearby residents and family members, causing the attackers to flee into the surrounding labyrinth of Khoda Colony.

The Struggle for Survival and the Family's Anguish

Hearing the commotion and the desperate cries of Surya's friends, his elder brother Yash rushed from their home in Navneet Vihar. Yash and several local residents found Surya lying unconscious in a pool of blood. They lifted the bleeding teenager and rushed him to a nearby private clinic. Recognizing the severity of his multiple internal injuries, the local doctors referred Surya to Fortis Hospital in Noida, where he was admitted in critical condition.

Surya fought for his life overnight as medical teams attempted to repair the damage to his abdominal organs. Despite their efforts, Surya Pratap succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at approximately 12:00 noon on Friday, May 29, 2026.

The tragedy has devastated his family and sparked an emotional public outcry. Surya’s mother, Saroj, who was away on duty when the stabbing occurred, returned to a scene of absolute devastation. In her grief, she alleged that her son was systematically lured to his death and demanded "blood for blood," appealing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to initiate immediate bulldozer action against the perpetrator's home and authorize a police encounter.

Surya's maternal aunt, Sunita, recounted the horrific scene at the hospital and expressed deep symbolic anguish, stating that the attackers had used the festive occasion of Bakrid to deceitfully sacrifice a human life instead of an animal. Meanwhile, Ayush, the key eyewitness who witnessed the entire stabbing, and his family have been placed under extreme fear of retaliation, prompting them to formally request continuous police protection.

Law Enforcement Response and Communal Friction

The news of Surya's death on Friday afternoon triggered immediate communal friction in the highly dense Khoda Colony. Members and leaders of local Hindu organizations quickly mobilized, marching to Surya’s residence and gathering outside the Khoda police station to protest the killing and demand the immediate arrest of all those involved.

The local situation grew even more tense when the administration of Fortis Hospital reportedly refused to release Surya’s body to his family until an outstanding medical bill of ₹4 lakh was settled, prompting protesters to surround the police station to demand official intervention.

In response to the growing unrest, Trans-Hindon DCP Dhawal Jaiswal and ACP Indirapuram Abhishek Shrivastava deployed a heavy police force throughout Navneet Vihar to maintain order and prevent retaliatory violence. Police teams immediately began scanning CCTV footage from cameras situated along the 200-meter chase route to identify the accomplices who participated in the pursuit and secondary stabbing.

Following Surya’s death, the Khoda Police converted the initial FIR—which had been registered under BNS Sections 109 (attempt to murder) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace)—into a formal murder investigation under Section 103 of the BNS.

By Saturday, May 30, 2026, the Khoda police team had arrested three named suspects in connection with the murder and detained two additional suspects for intensive questioning. However, the primary assailant, Asad, remains at large. Multiple specialized police teams have been dispatched across neighboring districts to track down his whereabouts, as local authorities continue their efforts to preserve peace in the community.
