"जय हनुमान ज्ञान गुण सागर": Hero Flydubai Captain Smit Machchhar calls PM Narendra Modi his true idol after fighting off a rogue co-pilot on a Dubai to Tel Aviv flight, saving 170 passengers while bravely reciting Hanuman Chalisa mid-air

On Friday, 2nd October, Prime Minister Narendra Modi connected via video call with Captain Smit Machchhar, the gallant Indian commercial pilot who endured critical injuries while preventing an unspeakable catastrophe in the skies aboard a Flydubai aircraft. Captain Machchhar is presently under intensive medical care, recovering from his wounds at a hospital in the United Arab Emirates. The harrowing event occurred on 30th September aboard Flydubai flight FZ1073.
The emergency took place during a scheduled journey departing from Dubai and heading toward Tel Aviv, with numerous Israeli citizens among the passengers on board. Without warning, a severe security crisis erupted directly inside the flight deck. The co-pilot turned abruptly hostile, initiating a savage knife assault against Captain Machchhar in an aggressive bid to wrest control of the flight instruments and deliberately plunge the aircraft into a fatal crash. Despite suffering severe stab wounds and enduring extensive blood loss, Captain Machchhar held onto his composure and resolved not to let the situation collapse into total destruction. Demonstrating remarkable mental fortitude, he sounded an emergency warning and made the decisive, life-saving choice to unlock and open the fortified cockpit door, permitting passengers to surge forward and successfully restrain the assailant.

‘My Greatest Inspiration’: An Overcome Machchhar Recounts the Mid-Air Crisis to PM Modi
In his direct exchange with Prime Minister Modi from his hospital bed, Captain Machchhar reflected on the thoughts that raced through his head during the violent struggle. He explained that even as his own survival hung in the balance, he recognized that giving up was not an option because the lives of everyone on board rested squarely on his shoulders.
“I was fighting for my life. I realised at that time that if I won’t show courage, then 170 passengers will lose their lives,” Machchhar shared with the Prime Minister.
The pilot was visibly moved to tears throughout the discussion, referring to the personal interaction as an unforgettable milestone. He confessed that he had never in his lifetime anticipated having an opportunity to speak directly with the leader of the nation.
Machchhar then told Modi, “You are my biggest idol. I feel proud of the way you are encouraging me today.” Looking back at the moment he lay grievously wounded, he noted that he had to summon every ounce of inner strength to overcome the physical agony and make one final, determined effort to reach and release the cockpit door mechanism.
The pilot also conveyed to the Prime Minister how deeply his spiritual convictions sustained him through the assault. Machchhar explained that his long-standing personal practice is to turn to sacred hymns during times of physical distress or acute danger, and he maintained that constant recitation as the attack raged around him.
“Whenever I am in pain, I recite Hanuman Chalisa. At that time too, I only kept reciting the Hanuman Chalisa,” he said.
Machchhar reflected that he felt Lord Hanuman granted him the resilience to persevere through the trauma. “Today, one call from you makes me feel really proud,” he stated to Modi.
The conversation remained intensely heartfelt, with Machchhar offering an apology for his tears as the gravity of the ordeal overtook him. He reiterated that he had never envisioned receiving a direct audience with the Prime Minister. Video recordings of the meeting confirmed that the pilot became openly tearful while recounting the nightmarish sequence of events and expressing his deep respect for Modi.
In turn, Prime Minister Modi assured Captain Machchhar that citizens across the entire country were actively offering prayers for his speedy healing, lauding the instantaneous judgment that preserved the lives of everyone aboard.
“The whole country is praying for you,” Modi told him, commending his boundless bravery, calm composure, and prompt action under extreme duress. The Prime Minister added that the people of India can proudly state to the world that they belong to a nation of individuals willing to stake their own lives to preserve the safety of others.
Prime Minister Modi had also formally commended the pilot on public forums a day prior. Posting on X, he had stated: “Captain Smit Machchhar has shown the world the highest form of courage. Without fearing for his own life, he fought valiantly and prevented another 9/11 like attack from happening. 140 crore Indians salute Captain Smit and are praying for his well-being.”
Ahead of this interaction, the Prime Minister had reached out directly to the pilot’s wife and parents on Thursday, 1st October, providing firm assurances that the Indian government would extend full diplomatic, consular, and medical assistance to ensure his complete treatment and well-being.

Online Narrative Spin Attempts to Cast Pilot as Opposition Sympathizer
Even while citizens nationwide and global observers united in praise for Captain Machchhar’s selflessness, a politically motivated narrative emerged across online platforms. Just hours following the heroic events on Flydubai Flight FZ1073, the Congress IT cell and digital partisans made coordinated efforts to latch onto the captain's immense public admiration by framing him as an ardent devotee of Rahul Gandhi. Social media accounts began aggressively circulating grabbed screenshots, asserting that the decorated pilot held personal political allegiance to the opposition figure.
The primary foundation for this online claim rested entirely on an unauthenticated Instagram profile bearing the handle @smitmachchhar, which displayed his likeness and had left a one-word comment reading “Respect” underneath a post centered on Rahul Gandhi. However, the legitimacy of this profile remains completely unsubstantiated. A closer review of the platform's native “About this account” transparency feature reveals clear irregularities: the profile featured in the viral captures was registered only recently, in July 2026. Furthermore, internal records confirm that the handle underwent nine separate username modifications prior to this incident. Crucially, there exists no official verification marker confirming any actual connection between the handle and the Flydubai captain.
This systematic drive to superimpose a partisan persona onto the pilot drew widespread scrutiny, particularly as Rahul Gandhi himself initially maintained public silence and did not issue an immediate statement acknowledging the Indian aviator’s valor. Instead of permitting an internationally recognized national figure to remain above everyday political maneuvering, online operatives chose to float speculative narratives using questionable accounts rather than standing alongside the public in celebrating an act of pure bravery.
In the end, Captain Machchhar’s personal words during his video exchange with Prime Minister Narendra Modi—wherein he directly identified the Prime Minister as his singular greatest inspiration—firmly dismantled the social media campaign aimed at misrepresenting his personal standing.
