"थूक जिहाद वल्लाह वल्लाह, इंशाल्लाह": Aligarh police arrested Soheb Khan for spitting on rotis at Shadab Chicken Darbar in Teli Pada after viral videos led Lokesh Varshney to file an FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Health Acts

On 21st February, a disturbing incident from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, caught public attention after a video began circulating widely on social media. In the footage, a cook identified as Soheb Khan was allegedly seen spitting on tandoori rotis before placing them inside a tandoor to cook. The video spread quickly across different platforms, leading to strong reactions from local residents.

According to police officials, action was taken without delay. After receiving information about the video through social media posts and complaints, Aligarh police began tracing the exact location shown in the footage. The hotel was identified as Shadab Chicken Darbar Hotel, situated in Teli Pada under the limits of the Rorawar police station. Soon after confirming the location, police teams conducted a raid at the establishment and took Soheb Khan into custody. Following the raid, the hotel was shut down temporarily while further action is being considered.
The incident came to light when two short video clips, each approximately six seconds long, surfaced online on 21st February. In the clips, the cook can be seen preparing rotis inside a traditional clay oven, commonly known as a tandoor. The visuals appeared to show him spitting on the rotis before cooking them. As the clips were shared repeatedly, anger began to grow among local residents. Many people expressed concern over hygiene and public health, and a formal complaint was soon filed with the police. OpIndia later accessed a copy of the First Information Report registered in connection with the case.

Details Mentioned in the FIR
The FIR has been registered under Sections 271 and 272 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Sections 3 and 4 of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897. The complaint was filed by Lokesh Varshney at the Rorawar police station on 21st February, naming Soheb Khan as the accused.
In his written complaint, Varshney stated that he came across a video on social media showing a man spitting on rotis while preparing them at a hotel. He specifically identified the person in the video as Soheb Khan and named the establishment as Shadab Chicken Darbar Dhaba. Varshney further stated that such an act was harmful to the general public and demanded strict legal action against the accused.
After reviewing the complaint and the video evidence, the police registered the FIR under the relevant legal sections and initiated formal legal proceedings in the matter.

Food Safety Department Steps In, Hotel Sealed
Considering the serious nature of the allegations, particularly those related to food contamination and public health, officials from the food safety department also visited the premises. A team reached the hotel soon after the police action and collected food samples for laboratory testing. Authorities ordered the temporary closure of the establishment until the investigation is completed and test results are reviewed.
Circle Officer City II, Kamlesh Kumar, confirmed that the video was received through social media on 21st February. He stated that immediate steps were taken to identify the dhaba shown in the footage. An FIR was registered under the appropriate sections of the law, and the accused was arrested. He also informed that the concerned department has been notified so that further necessary action can be taken in accordance with the law.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue to examine the evidence and await the results of the food sample tests.
