"Allahu Akbar": Ayodhya placed on high alert after police detain Kashmiri resident Abu Ahmed Sheikh and two others for offering Namaz inside Ram Mandir's Sita Rasoi and raising religious slogans

Ayodhya witnessed a serious security-related incident on Saturday morning when three Kashmiri Muslims were detained by security personnel inside the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple complex after they were seen offering namaz within the high-security premises. The incident took place at one of the most closely guarded religious sites in the country and immediately drew the attention of security agencies and local authorities.
|
Security personnel deployed at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi complex noticed the group while they were inside the temple premises and preparing to offer Islamic prayers. As soon as the act was observed, the personnel intervened and detained all three individuals without delay. Given the strict security rules at the temple, any such activity is treated as a serious matter, prompting immediate action by the forces on duty.
According to reports, the group consisted of two men and a woman. They had entered the temple complex through the D1 gate and were dressed in traditional Kashmiri attire. One of the men moved towards the Sita Rasoi area, which is located about 200 metres away from the main temple structure. It was there that he reportedly sat down and began performing namaz. Security staff posted in the area quickly noticed the act, stopped him, and detained all three before handing them over to the local police for further questioning.
|
The man who began offering namaz has been identified as 55-year-old Abu Ahmed Sheikh, a resident of Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir. The woman accompanying him has been identified as Sofia. The identity of the third individual, described as a youth, has not yet been confirmed by the authorities. Eyewitnesses present at the scene stated that when security personnel intervened, the trio also raised religious slogans, further heightening concerns among officials on duty.
During a preliminary search, the detained individuals were found carrying items such as cashews and raisins. This raised additional suspicion among security agencies, as terrorists are often known to carry dry fruits to sustain themselves during prolonged operations or encounters with security forces. While the presence of these items alone does not establish wrongdoing, officials are treating the matter with caution due to the sensitive nature of the location.
|
Following the incident, intelligence agencies, local police, and senior administrative officials reached the spot promptly. The three detained persons are currently under interrogation. Authorities are trying to determine their intentions, their travel history, how they managed to enter the high-security zone, and whether there is any larger motive or network linked to the incident. Officials have stressed that all angles are being examined thoroughly.
So far, neither the district administration nor the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has issued any official statement regarding the incident. The lack of an official response has not stopped security agencies from intensifying checks and remaining on high alert across the temple complex and surrounding areas.

The episode has once again drawn attention to the extensive security arrangements at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Since the consecration of Ram Lalla on January 22, 2024, the temple has been witnessing an average daily footfall of around 1.5 lakh devotees. To manage this massive crowd and ensure safety, the temple is guarded round the clock by the Special Security Force (SSF), which includes nearly 200 personnel drawn from PAC and police units.
In recent months, the Ram Temple site has faced several security threats, including bomb threats sent through social media platforms, phone calls, and WhatsApp messages. In response, authorities have been working on further strengthening the security framework. Plans are underway to establish a National Security Guard (NSG) hub in Ayodhya, equipped with specialised weapons and anti-drone systems. An integrated control centre, with an estimated cost of ₹11 crore, is also being developed to improve coordination among the police, CRPF, SSF, and intelligence agencies. These details have been reported by national news agencies such as ANI and PTI, which have been closely tracking security developments in the temple town.
|
The incident comes just days before the upcoming Makar Sankranti celebrations, a period when Ayodhya is expected to see a massive influx of pilgrims and visitors. Officials have stated that security arrangements have already been tightened further to ensure peace and order during the festive period. Authorities have reiterated that any activity posing a potential risk to communal harmony or public safety will be dealt with strictly, especially at a site as sensitive as the Ram Temple.
