Gujarat shaken after pregnant cow slaughtered in Sarigam Valsad, minor held at scene and Saddam Shahbuddin Khan arrested later for killing and attempting sword attack on gaurakshaks, police inquiry on

A deeply disturbing incident has emerged from Sarigam village in Umargam taluka of Valsad district, Gujarat, where a pregnant cow was brutally slaughtered, causing shock and anger among local residents. Police officials confirmed that two Muslim men from the village were involved in the killing, one of whom is a minor. The crime came to light late at night and immediately drew the attention of law enforcement and cow protection activists in the area.
According to police, one accused was caught at the scene, while the second managed to flee during the incident. After police began a detailed investigation and search operation, the absconding accused was later traced and arrested. Authorities stated that a formal case has been registered, and the matter is being handled strictly under the law, with further legal steps currently underway.
The incident occurred on the night of 24th December, behind an industrial unit located near Rohitwas in Sarigam. Gau rakshaks alerted the police after receiving information that two individuals had slaughtered a cow at the location and were still present there. Acting quickly on this information, a team from Bhilad Police Station reached the spot and conducted a night raid to verify the details and secure the area.
During the on-site investigation, police officers found the severed head of a pregnant cow along with beef remains scattered around the location. The condition of the site clearly indicated that the animal had been killed in a violent and cruel manner. Gau rakshaks present at the scene managed to detain a minor, who was then handed over to the police for further action.
Police sources revealed that the second accused, identified as Saddam Shahbuddin Khan, attempted to attack the gau rakshaks with a sword when confronted. After trying to create fear and chaos at the spot, he managed to escape. However, police later tracked him down and arrested him as part of the ongoing investigation.
During initial questioning, police learned that the accused had taken the cow under the excuse of feeding it fodder. Once they had control over the animal, they allegedly killed it. Investigators believe that the meat was intended to be sold to local butchers. From the crime scene, Bhilad police seized beef remains, pellets, and other related materials, which have been sent for further examination. Legal and forensic procedures connected to the case are still in progress.
Speaking about the case, PI Pawar of Bhilad Police Station confirmed that the accused who had earlier escaped has now also been arrested. Police officials stated that both the adult and the minor are currently being questioned, and investigators are carefully examining all aspects of the crime to establish responsibility and motive.
A leader from a local Hindu organisation said that police are handling the matter with seriousness, especially because one of the accused is a minor, which adds sensitivity to the case. Due to this, authorities have chosen not to disclose many details publicly at this stage. Police have themselves become the complainant in the case and are proceeding with legal action as per established law.
Following the incident, a meeting was held at the Sarigam Gram Panchayat office to address public concerns and prevent tension. The meeting was attended by leaders from both Hindu and Muslim communities, office bearers of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, local residents, police officials, and Ramanbhai Patkar. During the discussion, gau rakshaks expressed strong anger and concern over the killing of a pregnant cow, while police officials urged people from all communities to maintain peace and harmony.
Police have stated that the situation in the area is currently under control. Authorities assured residents that further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, and that any individual found guilty will face strict consequences under the law.
