US-Bangladesh citizen Akhtaruzzaman orchestrated the cold-blooded murder of Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar in Kolkata, involving gold smuggling and a gruesome aftermath where the victim's body was chopped and packed into suitcases for disposal

In a shocking development out of Kolkata, the recent murder of Bangladeshi Member of Parliament Anwarul Azim Anar has been linked to a complex web of gold smuggling involving US-Bangladesh citizen Akhtaruzzaman, also known as Shaheen. This case has uncovered not only the intricacies of international crime but also highlighted the dangerous overlap of politics and illegal trade.

Anwarul Azim Anar, a respected member of the Bangladeshi parliament, was tragically found deceased on May 13th in Kolkata, where he had traveled for medical purposes. West Bengal police have disclosed that Azim Anar and Akhtaruzzaman were purportedly embroiled in a clandestine gold smuggling operation based in the city. The initial suspicion that this murder was connected to their illicit activities has yet to be formally acknowledged by either Indian or Bangladeshi investigative bodies.
The investigation has further revealed a bitter conflict between Anar and Akhtaruzzaman regarding their business dealings, culminating in Akhtaruzzaman's decision to orchestrate Anar's assassination. To execute his plan, Akhtaruzzaman hired a man named Amanullah, who subsequently enlisted the assistance of two accomplices, Mustafizur and Faisal.
Amanullah, identified as a former leader of the Purbo Banglar Communist Party, has a notorious criminal background with two decades spent in prison for involvement in two separate murder cases. This background paints a grim picture of the extent to which criminal networks have infiltrated various spheres of South Asian life, raising concerns about the safety and integrity of public figures.
New details have surfaced about the logistics and execution of the plan orchestrated by US-Bangladesh citizen Akhtaruzzaman, alias Shaheen, in the murder of Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar. The complexity of the crime has begun to unravel, revealing a premeditated and gruesome act that spanned international borders.

Akhtaruzzaman not only masterminded the murder but also facilitated a well-equipped hideout for his hired killers. He rented an apartment in Kolkata, specifically for housing his team, which included two additional accomplices, Jihad and Siam, who managed to enter India from Bangladesh without passports. For this apartment, Akhtaruzzaman shelled out Rs 1 lakh per month, illustrating the financial lengths he went to in planning this crime. His visit to Kolkata on April 30th, along with Amanullah, was a part of the final preparations before carrying out the assassination.
In a chilling turn of events post-murder, the culprits resorted to dismembering Anwarul Azim Anar's body, packing the remains into suitcases. These suitcases were then handed over to an Indian contact, tasked with disposing of them, further complicating the investigation due to the crossing of national jurisdictions and the involvement of multiple criminals.
Currently, Amanullah along with his associates Mustafizur and Faisal are in custody. During their interrogation, they admitted to their roles in the gruesome crime. However, the exact whereabouts of Anar’s remains remain shrouded in mystery. Amanullah has stated during questioning that he could not pinpoint where the body parts were ultimately disposed of, as the task was distributed among several individuals involved in the crime. He disclosed that the suitcases containing Anar's remains were passed between different hands, obscuring the final locations.
Further developments in the assassination case of Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar have emerged, with significant revelations about the financial motivations behind the murder. Amanullah, the primary suspect in the murder, disclosed to the Bangladeshi police that he had agreed to commit the crime for a payment of 5 crore takas (approximately ₹3.5 crore).
After carrying out the assassination, Amanullah returned to Dhaka on May 15th, with his accomplices following shortly thereafter. It was during this time that the gravity of the situation began to surface. Amanullah was apprehended by the police in Bangladesh on a Tuesday night, and based on the information he provided, his accomplices Faisal and Mostafizur were also arrested.
In a surprising twist, Akhtaruzzaman’s brother, Shahiduzzaman, who serves as the mayor of Kotchandpur Municipality in Bangladesh, provided insights into the personal connections within the case. He mentioned that Akhtaruzzaman visited Bangladesh during Ramadan and emphasized that his brother and Anwarul Azim Anar maintained a good relationship, which adds a layer of complexity to the motives behind the murder.
Harun Or Rashid, the additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, has assured the public of the ongoing collaboration between Bangladeshi and Indian police forces. He stated, "We are closely working with the Indian police. We are receiving a lot of information we cannot divulge now for the sake of investigation.”
