Thackerays cry 'battle not over' after BMC flop, spinning pride speeches and moral victories while rivals laugh as MNS wins just 6 seats and Mahayuti powers sweep the board across Mumbai city

The dust has barely settled on the high-stakes Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, yet the political narrative in Maharashtra shows no signs of cooling down. Following the announcement of the results, the Shiv Sena (UBT) immediately made it clear that they do not view this as the end of the road. Instead, they have struck a defiant tone, signaling that the tussle for dominance in the state is far from finished.

In a display of spectacular optimism—or perhaps just an inability to read the room—the party has issued its first reaction, striking a note so defiant you almost forget they lost.
In a direct message shared on the social media platform X this Saturday, the party emphasized that their struggle is about more than just seat numbers. They stated, “This battle is not over yet... It will continue just like this until the Marathi person receives the respect they deserve!” This initial reaction frames the election results not merely as a scorecard of wins and losses, but as a continuing chapter in a broader movement focused on the dignity and rights of the Marathi community.

Raj Thackeray’s Rallying Cry
Raj Thackeray, the chief of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), voiced feelings that closely mirrored those of his cousin’s party. He reiterated that their campaign is fundamentally dedicated to the “Marathi Manoos,” the preservation of the Marathi language, and the overall prosperity of the state. He also took the opportunity to caution his party’s elected representatives, urging them to stand their ground against what he characterized as harassment tactics by the ruling alliance.
Raj Thackeray, whose party entered the fray contesting 53 seats in a strategic alliance with Sena (UBT), released a comprehensive statement on X. He offered congratulations to the winning candidates from both factions of their alliance.
He wrote, “With love, Jai Maharashtra. First and foremost, heartfelt congratulations to all the elected corporators of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and Shiv Sena."
He went on to describe the uneven nature of the contest, highlighting the immense resources deployed against them. "This election was not an easy one. It was a battle of tremendous money power and the power of authority against Shivshakti. Yet even in such a fight, the workers of both parties gave an excellent battle. Their praise can never be enough,” he stated, praising the grit of the party workers who fought against the odds.

Resilience Despite Setbacks
The MNS chief was candid about the results, admitting that the numbers did not meet their high expectations. However, he dismissed any notion of surrender.
“It is saddening that MNS did not achieve the expected success this time, but that does not mean we are the kind to lose heart and give up. The corporators who have been elected will more than hold their own against the ruling powers right there on the ground. And if anything is seen to be happening against the Marathi Manoos, they will surely bring those in power to their knees.”
Detailed further in his post, Raj Thackeray reminded his followers that their ideological mission is a marathon, not a sprint. “Our fight is for the Marathi Manoos, for the Marathi language, for Marathi identity, and for a prosperous Maharashtra. This fight itself is our very existence. All of you are well aware that such struggles are long-term in nature. Whatever went wrong, whatever was left undone, wherever we fell short, and what needs to be done - we will all together analyse it and take action.”
He also issued a stern warning regarding the challenges that lie ahead for Marathi speakers, suggesting that the ruling powers would persist in their hostility. “Actually, there is no need to even tell you this, but still I will say it: whether in the MMR region or across the entire state, the ruling powers and those who have gone under their shelter will not leave a single opportunity to harass and exploit the Marathi Manoos. Therefore, we must stand firmly behind our Marathi Manoos.”

Concluding his address with a call to rebuild and reorganize, he signed off with a personal touch: “Elections will come and go, but we must never forget that our very breath is Marathi. See you soon. Let us get back to work once again. Let us rebuild our party and organisation afresh!!! Your humble, Raj Thackeray.”The Numbers Game: A Split City
These statements come against the backdrop of the MNS securing just six seats in the corporation. However, a closer look at the data reveals distinct geographical trends. The alliance between Sena (UBT) and MNS proved to be quite formidable in specific pockets of the city. They put up a strong performance in parts of south and central Mumbai, effectively sweeping the "Marathi heartland" by winning most of the 20-odd wards in that area. In stark contrast, the Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde managed to secure only two seats in these traditional strongholds.
The Thackeray cousins also demonstrated significant influence in Worli. Even though the Sena (UBT) had to contend with rebel candidates in four different wards, they still succeeded in winning six out of the seven seats in that constituency.
On the other side of the divide, the ruling Mahayuti alliance maintained its dominance in areas with different demographic compositions. backed heavily by the Gujarati community, the Mahayuti alliance swept all the seats in Mulund. They also performed strongly in Ghatkopar’s N ward, where they won seven out of the 11 available seats.
