Lashkar-e-Taiba rebuilding Markaz Taiba in Muridke after Operation Sindoor with Pakistan govt funds and flood relief money, targeting completion by 2026 Kashmir Solidarity Day

Lashkar-e-Taiba to Rebuild Markaz Taiba HQ Using Government and Flood-Relief Funds, Demolition Done

The Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) headquarters in Muridke, which was destroyed during India’s Operation Sindoor, is now being rebuilt. What makes this development more alarming is that the reconstruction is being financed through government money. Reports have revealed that the group is also diverting funds meant for flood victims towards this project. According to a detailed investigation, the LeT has managed to secure both state funds and donations collected under the label of flood relief in order to bring back its destroyed base, the Markaz Taiba headquarters.

The Markaz Taiba is often described as the “alma mater” of Lashkar-e-Taiba. It is the most significant training centre of the organisation, located in Nangal Sahdan, Muridke, in Sheikhupura district of Punjab, Pakistan. Established in the year 2000, this centre spans an enormous area of 82 acres. Within this massive space lies a madrassa, a marketplace, residential colonies specifically designed for cadres, a sports complex, a fish farm, and agricultural fields. It is not just a campus, but a self-sufficient township created for nurturing and sheltering extremist entities.

The complex also serves as a hub for military-style training. It provides facilities for arms training, physical combat drills, as well as religious radicalisation and indoctrination sessions. Cadres from within Pakistan and abroad are brought here to undergo preparation, both ideological and operational. There are also Sufa education centres—one for men and another for women—dedicated to spreading religious indoctrination among male and female members. During Operation Sindoor in May this year, several key structures inside this sprawling complex were destroyed by Indian forces.

The report points out that the group has now completed the demolition of those bombed structures. Most of the buildings were left heavily damaged after the missile strikes. Only skeletal remains of walls and broken roofs were standing, making them unsafe for any use. For this reason, the group decided to bring them down completely in order to prepare the ground for fresh construction.

The demolition drive began on August 18 when five JCB machines were deployed at the site. Within two days, by August 20, the well-known Umm-ul-Qura training complex was already partially razed. The full demolition of that building was completed by September 4. Soon after, attention shifted to the accommodation block which had sustained major damage. By September 7, that too was reduced to rubble.

Currently, the debris is being cleared from the grounds. Once this process ends, the construction of a new structure will commence. The group has already set itself a target. They plan to have the new Markaz Taiba fully built and operational by February 5, 2026. This deadline is not random—it has been chosen to coincide with Kashmir Solidarity Day, an annual event of enormous significance to Lashkar-e-Taiba. The organisation aims to showcase the new headquarters during this event as a demonstration of strength and survival.

It is important to note that after Operation Sindoor destroyed several terror bases, the Pakistan government openly promised to rebuild them. These bases were located inside public institutions such as mosques and health centres, which made it easier for the authorities to justify reconstruction efforts. In line with that commitment, LeT recently received its first instalment of government assistance. Last month, the group was granted PKR 4 crore (₹1.25 crore) to begin rebuilding the Markaz Taiba. But this amount is only the beginning. To restore the facility to its earlier form, LeT has estimated a requirement of PKR 15 crore (₹4.70 crore).

Because the government support alone will not be enough, the group has devised another channel to gather resources. Under the pretense of providing relief to flood victims, Lashkar-e-Taiba has launched a fundraising campaign. Through both online and offline means, they are seeking contributions. The money collected under the banner of “Relief for flood victims” is being diverted to finance the reconstruction of their terror headquarters. This dual strategy of using state funds and exploiting public sympathy for flood victims has given the organisation the money it needs to bring back its most important base.
